Mary Rita Ambery

(nee Redmond) Homemaker

Mary Rita Ambery, a longtime Rockaway resident, died August 12.

Ambery was born in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. She moved to Rockaway 35 years ago. Ambery was a crossing guard for the Department of Education at PS 119 in Brooklyn, New York.

Ambery was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Harold Redmond.

She is survived by her husband, George; children, Mary Ambery, Patricia Vogel (Evan), George Jr. (Eileen), Ellen Kinnane (Brian), Billy, Elizabeth Sorrentino (Philip), Timothy (Danielle) and Kevin (Denise); grandchildren, Kyle Vogel, Christopher Vogel, Alana Ambery, George Ambery, Shannon Ambery, Liam Kinnane, Mary Kinnane, Kiera Kinnane, Kiersten Sorrentino, Taylor Sorrentino, Amanda Ambery, Matthew Ambery, Logan Ambery and Mackenzie Ambery; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at St. Thomas More Church, Rockaway Point. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to the Eden II School for Autistic Children, 75 Skyline Dr. Staten Island, New York 10304.
