James Earl McKay

Teacher, Artist and Singer

James Earl McKay, NYC teacher, artist and singer, died on December 28 at age 71. McKay was an original member of the Flamingos singing group.

A Rockaway resident for more than 36 years, he was involved with the Rockaway Artists Alliance, the Gateway Fishing Club, the Fulton Art Fair, the Macedonia church senior center and other organizations.

McKay is survived by his wife, Claudia McKay; daughters, Genice, Aisha, Iharsa, Iman and Beuna; sons, James, Kenyon and Semaj; son-in-law, Maurice; daughter-in-law Nyasia; sisters-inlaw,

Ella, Jennie and Regina; brothersin law, Tracy, James and Clyde. He also leaves behind grandchildren, David, Crytsal, Christina, Marquisha, Zamir, Jasmine, Shaquan, Stephanie, Jamel, Kajah, Nacieya, Keniya, Triniti and Sadiq; great-grandchildren Myasia, David Jr., Mikayla, Adan and Amaya and hosts of cousins and friends.

There will be a viewing on Sunday January 6 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Johns Funeral Home, 509 Liberty Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday January 7.
