Far Rock Man Faces Prison For Killing Cat

By Anna Spivak

A 30-year-old Far Rockaway man is facing up to two years in prison for allegedly tossing a female cat from a third floor balcony and then viciously stomping her to death last September. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, Giovanni Olivo of Beach 26th Street, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and endangering the welfare of a child, as the incident occurred in plain sight of witnesses, which included children. Having been thrown from a third-floor balcony, the cat miraculously survived the fall only for the defendant to allegedly stomp on the cat until she was dead while onlookers – several of whom were children – looked on in horror. Such acts of aggression toward animals cannot – and will not – be tolerated in Queens County.” According to the charges provided by the DA, Olivo was seen tossing the feline from the balcony of his home on Sept. 30, 2016. It was alleged that the 30-year-old then made his way down to the street and repeatedly stomped on the cat while saying, “you’re dead to this world.” The defendant was arraigned on April 17. Olivo, who faces up to two years in prison if convicted, was released under supervision and ordered to return to court on July 13.
