Irish Festival Is Coming!

It wouldn’t be an Irish festival without bagpipes It wouldn’t be an Irish festival without bagpipes The fifth annual Irish Festival is coming and will be held on the weekend of June 3-4 in the St. Camillus parking lot.

“Over the past four years we have had thousands of people enjoy a full day of Irish music, vendors, food and drink,” said AOH 21 President Mark Edwards.

There will be a free bouncy castle and face painting for the kids. Edwards said the “lads have made it a family friendly event.”

The two-day affair is hosted each year by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division 21 of Rockaway Beach / Breezy Point to help raise money for St. Camillus/St. Virgilus.

Prior to the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, the Rockaway Irish Festival had been kept dormant for 17 years, until it was resurrected by the Hibernians in 2013.

“After the storm, this Hibernian division has come back and is now the second largest in New York State,” said Tim McSweeney, president of the New York State AOH. “This division is a testament to the Irish community in Rockaway.”
