The event took place on Beach 94th Street and Ocean Promenade where it sparked interest in beachgoers, surfers, families and other onlookers passing by the boardwalk.

The purpose of the day was to promote the community and police working together; no matter what their faith or origin.

In the spirit of everybody coming together, people were able to have a fun-filled day to celebrate diversity. Concession stands were up and running right across from the event tables, set up with numerous pamphlets and brochures given out by officers of the 100th Precinct.

Beach safety, scam alerts, crime prevention, safeguarding your apartment, sexual violence, domestic violence and teen dating were just a few topics that locals were educated on by the officers.

Janie Simmons, Ed.D. of Rockaway GetsNaloxone, who appeared as a guest at last month’s 100th Precinct Community Council meeting, showed up at the event with a couple of drug overdose reversal kits to hand out to those willing to act in a serious situation.

Simmons strongly speaks out about opioid overdoses and how much of a problem they have become, especially in New York.

By being taught how to use the kits, people are able to act fast and save a life.

Even with all of the serious subject matter, people of all ages came out and enjoyed a rock climbing boulder set up right in front of the beach boardwalk. Officers assisted all those willing to give it a go with safety precautions, as many raced up the rock trying to reach the tippy top. It was a beautiful day for the community to come together and enjoy.
