An Intern’s Take

By Ilyassha Shivers

In spite of the weather, my hope is that everyone had a safe Memorial Day. I know many of us were not able to do any grilling due to the weather.

I thank God for my daughter who came home to visit for a week and went back to school for some summer classes. She has decided to minor in photography. I have never told her publicly how proud I am of her. She has overcome a lot to make it to this point. I look forward to seeing her walking across the graduation stage in 2018.

On another note, one of greatest men I know, Bishop W. C. Shivers will celebrate his 33rd pastoral anniversary in June 2017. Bishop Shivers’ journey is that of a best-selling book or a blockbuster movie. I might share some of it with you one day. The sermon for this Sunday was about liberty. There is so much that we take for granted. The preacher reminded us that we are all born for a purpose.

As God’s greatest creation we have the liberty to live as we choose. You see in life there are only two choices God’s way or the wrong way. Many of us tend to think that we know better until we find ourselves in situations that are not favorable or even tragic. Freedom does not mean the same thing to everyone. There are some who are trapped by their lifestyle. They are locked up in the prison of their mind. There are also some who are trapped by poor choices and find themselves living a life like a dog chasing its tail.

The bottom line is this if you want to change you must do things differently. You can't expect a different outcome if you keep the same actions.
