Far Rockaway Girl Scout sold 1000 boxes to earn top spot

Far Rockaway Girl Scout Jayda Crenshaw is the Queens top seller for 2017! Far Rockaway Girl Scout Jayda Crenshaw is the Queens top seller for 2017! The last cookie has been counted! Girl Scouts across New York City sold an incredible 1,444,797 boxes of Girl Scout cookies during the 2016- 2017 sales season, and Far Rockaway’s Jayda Crenshaw sold 1,000 boxes to earn her the top spot in Queens.

Over five years of selling Girl Scout cookies, Jayda says she has learned that perseverance is the key to being successful and reaching your goals.

“I learned that to be a great business woman you have to talk to a lot of people,” Jayda said about becoming a top seller. “To other Girl Scouts I would say to never give up on reaching your goal and try to always do your best.”

Jayda participates in Girl Scouts at her school, Challenge Preparatory Charter School under the leadership of Mrs. Melissa Harris for the last seven years.

“Jayda has been in Girl Scouts since the age of 7, and each year she works hard selling cook- ies,” said Jayda’s mom Danielle. “My husband John and I help by selling cookies at our jobs.”

Danielle says her daughter has learned several skills while selling Girl Scout cookies; running her own cookie business, leadership, customer service, money management, goal-setting, decisionmaking, and business ethics. Her favorite cookie is Thin Mints.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program— the largest girl-led business and entrepreneurship program in the world—gives girls essential skills that help them succeed in future careers and in life. Through selling cookies, girls learn money management, decision making, goal setting, people skills, and business ethics.

All proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program in New York City remain within the five boroughs and fund the Girl Scout leadership experience locally, with $0.65 per box going directly to the individual troop.
